Baritone Luca Salsi will make his LA Opera debut as Marcello in La Bohéme (November 2007). Born in San Secondo Parmense in 1975, he received his degree in voice from the Arrigo Boito Conservatory of Parma, where he studied with soprano Lucetta Bizzi. He made his debut at a very early age at the Teatro Comunale of Bologna in La Scala di Seta (as Blansac), followed by Noye's Fludde by Benjamin Britten (as Noah) in Parma's Cathedral and Britten's The Little Sweep in Massa Carrara.
In 2001 he appeared as Antonio with Il Viaggio a Reims under the baton of Maestro Gatti at the Teatro Comunale of Bologna and as Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro at the Washington National Opera. He played Riccardo in I Puritani during the Japanese tour of the Teatro Comunale of Bologna and Rembaud in Le Comte Ory at the Rossini Festival in Bad-Wildbad, Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro Comunale of Bologna, and Schaunard in La Bohéme at the Teatro Carlo Felice of Genoa.
In the autumn of 2003 he sang Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Garsington Festival in England and Don Alvaro in Il Viaggio a Reims at the Teatro Carlo Felice of Genoa. His 2004 engagements included Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro at the Teatro Felice in Genoa, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly in the tour in Korea of the Puccini Festival of Torre del Lago, Silvio in Pagliacci with the Teatro Bellini of Catania during the summer season. In the same year, he also performed in Lisbon (Belcore in L'Elisir d'Amore) and at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo (Marcello from La Bohéme).
In 2005 he sang Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro Carlo Felice of Genoa, as well as in Tenerife under the baton of Maestro Zedda. He performed as Marcello in La Bohéme at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago and as Silvio in Pagliacci in a new production by Franco Zeffirelli which was staged at the Attic Herod Theatre in Athens. In January 2006 he performed Faust in Parma with great success, Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Cagliari, La Bohéme and Madama Butterfly in Torre del Lago and Madama Butterfly again in Washington DC.
In 2007 we underline Gianni Schicchi in Naples, his debut at the Berlin with Madama Butterfly as well another debut as Guglielmo in Così fan tutte with the Israeli Opera,. He will also perform Manon Lescaut in Cagliari (June), Madama Butterfly in Torre del Lago followed by his debut in the same opera at the Metropolitan Opera. The year will continue with La Bohéme in Washington DC followed by another La Bohéme with the Los Angeles Opera.
In 2008, Mr. Salsi will be performing Falstaff with the Petruzzelli foundation in Bari, La Traviata in Ancona, Werther in Seville, Rossini's Guillaume Tell in Warsaw, and La Bohéme at the Carlo Felice in Genoa.
