Andrew Sritheran studied in California with Marilyn Horne, in New York at the Eastman School and in Manchester at the Royal Northern College of Music with Paddy McGuigan where he was a major scholar of the Peter Moores foundation. He was awarded the prize for 'Most Promising Young Singer' at the Rossini Festival in Wildbad, won the UK National Mozart Competition and its Verdi/Wagner Prize in 2002, the Wagner Society Prize for Male Singers and best Potential Heldentenor in 2003 and First Prize in its Bayreuth Bursary in 2004. He was a member of the National Opera Studio in London in the 2003/04 season and was a finalist in the International Wagner Competition in Seattle in 2006.
Roles at the RNCM included excerpts from title role OTELLO, Florestan FIDELIO, Pinkerton MADAMA BUTTERFLY and Siegmund DIE WALKÜRE. Other opera includes Pollione NORMA for Preston Opera, Don José CARMEN at the Aberdeen International Youth Festival, Pinkerton MADAMA BUTTERFLY for Clonter Opera, cover Matteo ARABELLA for Garsington Opera and Opera Gala concerts throughout England. Other work includes VERDI REQUIEM, PUCCINI MESSA DI GLORIA and Handel MESSIAH, as well as recitals and concerts around the world. He has recently sung the title role IDOMENEO for Opera de Bauge and covered Calaf TURANDOT for New Zealand Opera. Future plans include LA FANCIULLA DEL WEST for Grange Park Opera; and his role debut as Siegmund DIE WALKÜRE at Theater Lübeck.
He joined the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme in September 2005 and made his Royal Opera debut as Snout A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM followed by Malcolm MACBETH. He also understudied Dick Johnson LA FANCIULLA DEL WEST, Macduff MACBETH, Cavaradossi TOSCA and Calaf TURANDOT. In the 2006/7 Season, he sang Second Foreman/Coachman LADY MACBETH OF MTSENSK, and Tchaplitsky THE QUEEN OF SPADES, while covering Don José CARMEN, Pinkerton MADAMA BUTTERFLY, and Boris Grigorjev KÁT'A KABANOVA.
